Zhangjian Scenic Area
The Libo Zhangjiang Scenic Area lies in the southwest of
Libo County and the southeast edge of Guizhou Province. It occupies an
area of 270 square kilometers with 58 main scenic spots including Xiaoqikong
(Seven Small Holes) Scenic Spot, Daqikong (Seven Big Holes) Scenic Spot,
Maolan Karst Virgin Forest Conservation Zone and so on. Among them, Xiaoqilong
Scenic Spot is the most beautiful and famous one.
Xiaoqikong
Scenic Spot
Xiaoqikong is named after a 40-meter-long bridge with seven arches that
look like seven holes. It was built in 1835 in Qing dynasty upon Xiangshui
River. The charming natural sceneries have earned a reputation for itself
and it first opened to tourists in 1989. This beautiful spot lies in a
narrow, long and quiet valley about 12 kilometers long and 2 kilometers
wide.
Xiaoqikong Scenic Spot is teemed with picturesque mountains, verdant trees,
lakes, springs, waterfalls and other natural beauties. It possesses many
stunning attractions including Mandarin Duck Lake, Xiangshui River, Wild
Boar Forest, the Valley of Terror, the Water Forest, Yongji Spring, A-Dragon-Teasing-Nine-Pearls,
the Flying-Cloud Cave and the 68-step Dieshui Waterfall.
Different from ordinary rivers or lakes, the water in the pool is dark
green. As mountains and trees were reflected in the water, a picture was
created that displayed a tranquil scene like in a traditional Chinese
painting. The one kilometer long Gurgling River is endowed with 68 water
drops or waterfalls with a total drop in elevation of 40 meters. Among
the numerous stalactite caves, Tianzhong Cave stands out prominently with
its particular exotic scenery. The mandarin duck in the lake; the trees
growing in the stone; the wild animals running in the mountain and the
twiddle of the birds all together paint a lovely picture of the tranquil
and natural place.
Daqikong
Scenic Spot
Daqikong is a wider but shorter stone bridge compares with its sister
bridge Xiaoqikong. It was original built in 1847 in Qing dynasty and rebuilt
in 30 years later and was called Shuangxi Bridge at that time.
There are many karst caves, cliffs, waterfalls, springs and rivers flowing
through this scenic area. The marvelous spectacle in this area is the
"Tiansheng Bridge", which also called the "Immortal Bridge".
It is a natural karst formed rock bridge bestride on two mountains. Seeing
at the lower place, it just as the "Oriental Triumphal Arch"
which built by nature. A river flowing through the bridge and forms a
two-meter high waterfall. The colorful flowers, green trees and brushwood
add more natural and tranquil elements to this charming place.
Maolan
Karst Virgin Forest National Nature Reserve
Maolan Karst Virgin Forest National Nature Reserve has an area about 200
square kilometers. It was founded in 1975 and was ranked as a national
nature reserve in 1988. The nature reserve occupies a magnificent view
with many picturesque trees that grow on the stones, caves, peculiar rocks,
waterfalls, limpid springs and other natural spots. It has great value
on the research of the ecosystem, geology and the wildlife protection.
It is also a famous tourist attraction which provides a natural landscape
with mystery and charm to the visitors.
Maolan Karst Virgin Forest National Nature Reserve lies in the subtropical
zone. The temperate climate and abundant rainfall supply favorable conditions
to the growth of the vegetation. There are more than 40 new species of
plants and over 500 vertebrates and insects found in here. Ginkgo, China
tulip, yew, podocarpus, Libo bamboo and some other rare trees are well-growth
in the land and wild animals such as rhesus monkeys, musk deer, South
China tigers, various amphibians, reptiles, silver pheasant all take the
land as their natural habitation.
Ethnic
Groups
Natural scenes are not the only local assets. The Libo County, where 90
percent of its population is minorities, is rich in cultural heritage.
Shui and Yao are the main ethnic groups living in Libo. Each of them has
its characteristics and unique customs.
The Shui people have its unique language Shui Shu. Among the 55 majority
groups in China, only 17 possess their own language. So it is very precious
and has great value on the research of the archeology, history and the
ancient culture.
The Yao people are very hospitable. They offer the rice wine that brewed
by themselves and the delicious local food to the visitors. Far away from
the modern society, they are very kind and live in a simple life like
their ancestors.
With abundant natural resources and ethnic cultures, the Libo Zhangjiang
Scenic Area is a wonderland especially for those people from the urban
area. It is an unspoiled place where you can breath the fresh air and
embrace the nature. You can release yourself in this remote countryside
